at Colcord House Bed and
Breakfast, Waco
Tuesday, September 5, 2006
The September meeting of
the Heart of Texas Bed & Breakfast Owners
Association was held at the Colcord House in
Waco. This was a social meeting, and it was
well-attended. The b&b’s represented were The
Back Porch B&B (new), Bear Creek Guest House,
Colcord House, Cotton Palace, Country Charm,
Creekside Garden, The Farm, Judge Baylor,
Lakeview Guest House, Let’s Go Country, and Rope
The Wind Ranch. Members enjoyed a tour of
Colcord House, as well as refreshments.
A new HOTBBOA
member was introduced by Becky Hodges. The Back
Porch B&B of China Springs was welcomed into the
association, and it is managed by Cindy Draper,
Gail Wood and Sue Hathaway.
Business was
discussed, since the brochure design needed
approval in order for it to be sent to a
printer. Members were favorable with the
design. Members will be emailed before the
inside is printed, to obtain the desired contact
info for the inside of the brochure. Motion was
made by Becky Hodges to accept the brochure
design as presented. Bruce seconded and the
motion passed.
The following
print bids were presented for a print quantity
of 5,000, which is the amount the membership
agreed upon. Pressman’s bid was $531, Imaging
Bureau’s bid was $661 and Burco’s was $857.
John Boggs made a motion that one last bid be
obtained from Firmin in Waco before the brochure
go to print, and that Susan proceed with getting
the brochure to print with the lowest bidder
after the final bid is obtained. Becky Hodges
seconded and the motion passed.
The need for a
nominating committee to find officers for next
year was discussed and Susan asked if there were
any volunteers willing to serve. The following
persons agreed to serve on the nominating
committee: Rick Allen, Marcia Boggs, Barbara
Epps, and Susan Mazanec.
It was noted
that the next meeting is at Bear Creek on Tues.,
Oct. 3, and the November meeting is a business
meeting to be held at Creekside Garden. Also,
there will be no December meeting, and January
was discussed as being a social meeting with an
after holidays dinner. Motion was made by Rick
Allen that the holiday dinner be held in
January, Becky seconded and the motion passed.
It was then noted that February would then need
to be the first quarterly business meeting of
the year. Motion was made to hold the business
meeting on the 2nd month of every quarter in
2007—it was stated that a motion had been made
at a previous meeting that all business meetings
will be held at a Waco-area B&B.
Treasurer’s
Report: Sandra Twitty reported that the
balance is $2181.50. Dues were collected in the
amount of $50, and a bill was presented from the
Baylor Parents League for the calendar ad in the
amount of $600.
A request was
made for b&b owners to please keep availability
calendars updated as people do use them. If b&b’s
don’t use this great tool, potential guests may
not even notice or are too busy to see that
one’s b&b is not on there and assume no one has
availability.
