The
06-14-05 meeting was called to order by
Susan Mazanec, our Vice
President. She reminded us that everyone is to
read the minutes of the previous meeting prior
to attending each month. This will insure
faster, more efficient meetings.
Jerry
proposed (last month) that the Association buy a
credit card machine, at the cost of around $100,
for B&Bs who currently cannot receive credit
card payments. The plan he found had no set-up
or programming fees. It was agreed that no
further action would be taken until those B&Bs
interested met together and worked out
additional details. Sandra Twitty will work up a
proposal with other interested members.
The
Baylor Family Guide was passed around so members
could see the free ad the Association received
in the Summer Guide; many B&Bs paid $50 for an
additional listing. Members discussed whether we
want to be included in future issues of The
Guide. There was some confusion as to how many
times per year The Guide would be printed (our
ad appeared in the "summer" issue). Bruce wanted
to halt discussion on advertising in future
Baylor Family Guides until individual B&Bs could
gauge quantity of calls generated. Linda
Williams said The Guide was given out at
orientation to a freshman class that is the
largest ever enrolled at Baylor. This should be
good news for phone traffic/bookings at
individual B&Bs.
Pam
Allen circulated the Association logo she re-did
for future advertising. The largest change was
in the style of the house. The following motion
was made by Pam Scobell and seconded by Larry
Price: The Association accepts the updated logo
for immediate use on any future print
advertising; on the website the new logo will
appear only on pages Jerry is re-working for
some other reason. In the interim, the old logo
will be sufficient for website use. Pam Allen
offered to e-mail Jerry a formatted image of the
logo for his use whenever a web page required
re-working.
A report
was given by John Boggs regarding last month's
meeting of the Associate Member Committee which
had been asked to come up with an application
that could be given to prospective Associate
members. The committee recommended the use of an
application very similar to the one posted on
the HAT website. John read, from HAT's website,
the benefits their Associate members receive via
an annual membership of $150. Individual B&Bs
were asked to e-mail John with what "benefits"
we could offer our associate members, keeping in
mind the HAT associate members have access to a
membership of 150. Our potential associate
members would have access to a membership of
19-20. Also, concern was expressed by Jerry that
we may not get much interest from potential
HOTBBOA members at the current yearly rate
proposed of $150.
The
Membership Committee, as well as many others,
voiced confusion over the definition of active
members vs. associate members. Some felt this
should be cleared up by another meeting of the
Membership Committee (which is a different
committee from the Associate Member Committee).
Any further action/clarification was delayed
until the Vision Committee could meet.
The
meeting was adjourned and unity restored by
partaking in the wonderful "spread" generously
provided by John and Marcia Boggs.
