The quarterly business meeting of the HOTBBOA
was held August 7, 2007 at the Colcord House
hosted by Rick and Pam Allen.
The minutes of the May meeting at the Judge
Baylor House were approved.
It was stated that our association account has a
balance of $1555.03.
There was a motion by Cindy Draper of the
Backporch B&B to
accept an application from
Creekbank Retreat B&B in
Cranfills
Gap, Texas, operated by Marilyn and Ronnie
Massey. Becky Hodges of the Cotton Palace B&B
seconded the motion and the motion was passed to
accept Creekbank
Retreat.
The Association thanked Pam Allen of Colcord
House B&B for all her hard work on the
brochure. We have enough blanks for
approximately 3 years. Several people took the
brochures to distribute to the visitors bureau,
the airport, and to place at individual B&B’s.
The next business meeting is at Rope the Wind in
November.
Rick Allen of Colcord House B&B reported on his
meeting with April at the Convention Visitor’s
Bureau. Our Association brochures were removed
from the front room and placed in the back.
April said that she ran out of rack space. Rick
pointed it out to her that she had brochures for
hotels in Bellmead
and hotels in Temple which would bring no
revenue to the city of Waco. He also told her
that B&B guest tend to stay longer in the city
and spend more money.
Cindy Draper checked on the brochures at the
airport and they were no where to be found. We
are paying $180.00 a year to rent the space at
the airport to display our brochures. The
contact that Cindy had was gone and the
maintenance man had taken over that
responsibility. He & Cindy looked for the
brochures and couldn’t find them anywhere. He
called Cindy the next day to tell her he had
found them and he placed them in the rack by the
arrival door.
JoAnn
Mulhausen of
Lakehaven B&B talked
about the fact she changed her credit card
processing code to reflect she was a restaurant
instead of a B&B. When the credit card receipt
prints out there is a line for a tip and many
B&B guests will fill in a tip. It had been
suggested that some B&B leave an envelope for
tips in the room.
Rates were discussed. Colcord House said they
have increased their rates $5.00 per year since
they have been in business. Dave Stoops of 1895
Tarlton House B&B
said that back in 1985 that the
Tarlton House was
charging $120 per room which is basically
today’s rate. Warren Johnson cautioned that
B&B’s are a luxury and that we can price
ourselves out of the market even though gas and
our food prices have gone way up.
Texas' state rate is $85.00.
Average price of a hotel in Waco is around
$95.00, Linda Williams said.
Persnickety Coffee by Tim & Jo Welter from China
Springs made a presentation to the Association.
They told about their coffee, processing, and
how to brew a good cup of coffee. We had coffee
tasting, coffee samples, and special treats
baked by Jo. The coffee is roasted by Tim.
There are many flavors to choose from and Tim
gave us tips on how to make the perfect coffee
and, according to Tim, it does not take an
expensive coffee pot. Tim and Jo will also do
private labels.
The meeting was adjourned.
